Our February 29, 2008 Clustermap

This blog has been open since January 1, 2008, although it’s only been in class use since the end of January when we started the new school year. Since then, we have had visitors from ten countries: Australia (of course!), USA, England, France, Netherlands, Iran, South Korea, Israel, New Zealand and Canada. That’s a pretty good spread, I think.

So, what brings these visitors? How do they find us? We know that our travelling class member Cointha has visited our site from England, France and the Netherlands. We know that some people from the USA linked to this site from last year’s blog. What about the others? How did they find us?

If you are a visitor that doesn’t know one of us personally, we’d really appreciate your posting a comment to tell us how you found us. Thanks!

Most class members now have their own personal blogs with links to these found on the “Student Blogs” page (see link above). Students will use their blogs for a variety of purposes including sharing ideas, publishing writing and asking for feedback. Each student will be able to chose their own theme for their blog – so far the most popular choice seems to be pink! Parents are welcome – encouraged, in fact – to read and comment on their student’s  – and any other grade members’ – blog.

Welcome to our classroom tonight – thank you for coming. This is our class blog. As we’ve only been at school for a couple of weeks, there’s not a lot to see yet, but keep watching this space! Feel free to browse through the pages of our blog – clicking the “home” button will bring you back to this page if you get lost. :-)

image from www.feebleminds-gifs.comNext Wednesday, February 20, the school will be open to parents and students for our annual HELLO NIGHT!

The doors will open at 6.30pm for an hour and we would like to invite all families to come to school that evening, meet their child’s teachers and have a guided tour of the classroom from their child.

The evening is informal and relaxed and a great way to get the school/family relationship off to a strong start. Hope to see you there!

Today we looked over the new blog, familiarising ourselves with new terms like post, blog and widget. We also discussed internet protocols, such as ensuring we never give away personal information and making sure our work is of a high standard to share with the world.

Some students also learned to post comments. We love comments! In fact, I want to encourage comments so much that I will give 1000 house points to the first ten students (from 5/6C) to post a comment to our blog before Wednesday. To qualify, comments must be correctly spelled and punctuated and say something intelligent, like sharing an idea or commenting thoughtfully on a post – no yelling though;  AAAARRRGGGHHHH!

(Note from Mrs C – no one got any points! How will you know what is happening if you don’t read new posts, chilluns?)

When we have all of our permission forms back, students will be able to write their own posts and, soon, post on their own blogs! Stay tuned…

Cointha is on a very long holiday in Europe. At the moment she’s in England; Cointha and her family stayed with an artist who provided fruit to paint.  Here’s the result (well done Cointha, it’s a lovely painting!)
