Mariah working hard (not!)

Today Mariah left our school to go to another town. We will miss her because she is such a friendly, happy classmate who tries hard and looks after everyone.

Because she was leaving us Mariah got to be Queen of the Chair – she got to use it whenever she wanted, except when Mrs C needed to recline more than Mariah did. The new chair sure is popular! For her last day Mariah had slaves who looked after her every need – here they are looking after her on her last day with us.Mariah with her slaves.

SCREECH! We pulled up on the side of the road and entered the Science Works in
Melbourne! The first exciting place we went to was the magnificent home. It showed the secrets of what was really inside your home. It showed all the revolting insects that lived beneath your floorboards, and what kind of objects get sucked right up into vacuum cleaner.

There were plenty of fun things to do around the kitchen area. My favorite part of the kitchen was the sink. It made an example of what would happen if you wasted your water, or gave it to your garden. We learnt many things about our houses and had lots of fun and humor! After a big day in
Melbourne we got on the bus and went home. We got home at 6:00pm and we had a brilliant day.

This year at our school we have a roof being put over our quadrangle, we will have our school assembly and other big meetings under our new roof. While it rains there will be no water hopefully. When we need shelter we will have lots of it. If we need outside working space we will have it. Our school is going to buy some chairs and outdoor seating. We can have parties and movies under our new roof.

We also have some workers making the staff room bigger. They are putting an outdoor sitting area for the staff. Our students are also allowed to work out there during class time. Builders have put a sliding door from the staff room out on to the ramp that is there. They are yet to put the outdoor seating.

Here’s a fun tool that you can use to map out ideas: it’s called Bubbl.us. Here’s a sample map I made up to share – imagine the possibilities!

This map shows where the Earth’s most recent earthquakes have happened. Even though it is inside the boundaries of a tectonic plate, Australia experiences earthquakes regularly; sometimes they cause significant damage.

The Planetarium is at Scienceworks in Melbourne. It is where you look up to watch a movie. When you sit on the seats they move back so it is like you are lying down. The movie we watched was Spinning Out. It tells you about space and the tilt of the Earth and where most of the star constellations are and a lot more. I recommend you go to the Planetarium and watch Spinning Out. We rate it 9 out of 10 but you might rate it better.
