In November most of our grade six student will be heading to our national capital, Canberra, for four days of looking, learning and laughing as they see the sights and attractions of this special city which was designed by American architect Walter Burley Griffin.

Some of the highlights of the tour will be Anzac Parade (in the foreground of the photo), Old Parliament House (in the centre of the photo) and New Parliament House on the low hill behind that, topped by the massive flagpole and a flag which is 12.8m by 6.4 metres, or roughly the size of a double decker bus!

Other highlights of the tour include a visit to Telstra Tower, Questacon, the National Museum and the Australian War Memorial.

Your grade 6 students will love this trip. Make sure they have lots of handkerchieves when they visit the War Memorial, especially if they have relatives who died in one of the wars. Questacon is intriguing as well with lots of experiments and things to have a go at.

You are all so lucky living on the mainland, because taking trips like this is so expensive for kids in Tasmania.

Hey we’re looking forward to seeing you all really soon… will you all be brave enough to go down the Free Fall vertical slide in SideShow?

    See you soon!

From Mrs C: Thanks for visiting our blog. My favorite ride is the virtual rollercoaster but most of the kids like the vertical free fall better – I love watching them hang at the top wondering if it’s safe to let go! Questacon is always the highlight of the trip to Canberra for us; we’re really looking forward to seeing you next month. :-)

    Hey MrsC!!
I’m pretty excited about going on our trip to Canberra! I bet it’s going to be great! :)
So what exactly is Questacon? Well, no need to tell me because I’m going to look it up on the net now with the links you have put down!
Are we really going to all those places? Wow, we are definately going to be busy! And REALLY exhausted when we get back to our cabins at the ends of every day! Oh well, there is going to be a pool there, as you said, so we can all cool down in that in the afternoons because I’m guessing it’s probably going to be boiling! Wait, it’s not actually that hot in Canberra so it might not be! Ha ha!
Well we really do have a full itinerary!
I’m absolutely going on that vertical slide thing the Questacon people talked about! That would be soooooooo awesome!! There is one at the Bendigo Scienceworks but I didnt go on it because I went when I was only about 5 years old!
    OK, I better go now!
    Bye!!
