A couple of weeks ago our class went out to plant a plant called, “Red Chocolate”. Everyone was a part of it and some people had to move a plant that was in the wrong spot. All classes had a plant to plant. There was a pattern for where the plants went. It went green, purple, green and so on. There were different types of plants – there are longifolia “Katrinus”, “Apricot Queen” and “Red Chocolate”.
Everyone got their hands dirty, especially the ones that were playing in the mud by digging the hole. We got the “Red Chocolate” plant because our teacher is mad about chocolate!
It looks great outside near the office now. Everyone had a great time helping to plant the plant

Last year the teachers made up a great tradition. It involves a lot of hard work for the teachers and students; everybody in grade 6 will make a quilt square. It will be 16cm squared which involves your name and something that describes you. You can have anything you want on it. All of our grade made cardboard squares that were laminated and stuck up in our classroom as a grade quilt. Grade 6 students also had to put their design on fabric, and when they were done all of the teachers sewed the squares together. The teachers then took it to the quilt shop to be quilted. Then they will hang the quilt so everyone can admire it at the Grade 6 Graduation.

We have two new students in our grade – welcome to Charlie and Ricky; it’s great to have you on board, boys.
Keep an eye out on our Student Blogs page for Charlie’s and Ricky’s new blogs – they just need to choose their theme, add a couple of widgets and then start posting. Stay tuned for their updates.

Freya is leaving us to travel through Asia for the rest of the school year – what a fantastic adventure. We hope she will keep in contact through her blog. Have a wonderful trip, Freya; you will be missed! When she returns, Freya will be going straight to high school.
On her last day, following our new tradition, Freya got to be “Queen of the Chair” – that means she got to sit in the recliner whenever she wanted to. She made herself a crown and generally did whatever she wanted (within reason, of course! Freya was Queen of the Chair but Mrs C remains Queen of the Classroom!)

What a night! The theatre rocked to the sounds of our fantastic production, “Circus Splendida”! There were clowns, acrobats, tumblers, jugglers, hula hoopers, musicians, riggers, children, tightrope walkers, dancers, sculptors, scooterers and, of course, “Lola, the Disappearing Lady“.
Grade 5/6C will be adding more to this post, as well as writing a post on each of their blogs. Stay tuned!

Today Mariah left our school to go to another town. We will miss her because she is such a friendly, happy classmate who tries hard and looks after everyone.
Because she was leaving us Mariah got to be Queen of the Chair – she got to use it whenever she wanted, except when Mrs C needed to recline more than Mariah did. The new chair sure is popular! For her last day Mariah had slaves who looked after her every need – here they are looking after her on her last day with us.

The Planetarium is at Scienceworks in Melbourne. It is where you look up to watch a movie. When you sit on the seats they move back so it is like you are lying down. The movie we watched was Spinning Out. It tells you about space and the tilt of the Earth and where most of the star constellations are and a lot more. I recommend you go to the Planetarium and watch Spinning Out. We rate it 9 out of 10 but you might rate it better.

We’ve had more messages from Cointha, our travelling class member. She’s in Rome, and sent these comments (follow the link and scroll down) as well as the email we read in class. She has visited the Colosseum, pictured here, as well as many of the other amazing sights of Italy.

In the last couple of weeks Cointha has been in Paris, Tuscany, Florence and the Cinque Terre, as well as a host of other places. Soon she and her family will be heading to Pompeii and Sicily. Have a great time Cointha!
Later update: Cointha is now blogging her adventures directly – see the link on our Student Blog page or click HERE!

Most class members now have their own personal blogs with links to these found on the “Student Blogs” page (see link above). Students will use their blogs for a variety of purposes including sharing ideas, publishing writing and asking for feedback. Each student will be able to chose their own theme for their blog – so far the most popular choice seems to be pink! Parents are welcome – encouraged, in fact – to read and comment on their student’s – and any other grade members’ – blog.

Cointha is on a very long holiday in Europe. At the moment she’s in England; Cointha and her family stayed with an artist who provided fruit to paint. Here’s the result (well done Cointha, it’s a lovely painting!)
