CelebratingThe Blogging Competition has begun! We started a little late with term holidays taking up the first two weeks and then Edublogs being in meltdown mode for the last week, but all should now be ready. Grade 5/6C students, aim to complete a task each week – it doesn’t matter what task and in your first week you have 4 to choose from, so there should be something that appeals to all of you. You will need to timetable your blog comp activities and computer access in your personal learning plan for the week.

Mega-thanks to Miss Wyatt in Tassie for the huge amount of work she’s put in to get this competition up and running. You’re a champ, Miss W!

This site, ClassTools, is a great way to make Flash games, activities and diagrams which can then be easily put on your blog. Best of all, you don’t have to sign up for anything – just get on there and play! Here’s a Venn diagram I put together in just a couple of minutes; it’s much quicker than the involved diagrams we did earlier this year, although they did look better. :-)

Today we looked over the new blog, familiarising ourselves with new terms like post, blog and widget. We also discussed internet protocols, such as ensuring we never give away personal information and making sure our work is of a high standard to share with the world.

Some students also learned to post comments. We love comments! In fact, I want to encourage comments so much that I will give 1000 house points to the first ten students (from 5/6C) to post a comment to our blog before Wednesday. To qualify, comments must be correctly spelled and punctuated and say something intelligent, like sharing an idea or commenting thoughtfully on a post – no yelling though;  AAAARRRGGGHHHH!

(Note from Mrs C – no one got any points! How will you know what is happening if you don’t read new posts, chilluns?)

When we have all of our permission forms back, students will be able to write their own posts and, soon, post on their own blogs! Stay tuned…

We have a class blog. We have a class wiki. We will have individual student blogs linked to the class blog. So now we need to decide what goes on the wiki and what goes in the blogs. Any suggestions anyone?

More thinking required.

After a couple of busy months learning how to put together a blog, it’s time to start again for the new 2008 year. But the old blog is still a good one, so it will be kept as a reference. No new posts will be made, but comments remain open. Check it out here: http://mrsc2902.edublogs.org
