Teacher Tools
Here are some great tools for teachers! Students should only access them under teacher or parent supervision – none have inappropriate content, but links may change.
This is a screenshot made with JING.
Here’s a great explanation of podcasting use on TeacherTube. And from the same author, a great video on Wikis and Blogs for beginners. There are more videos in the series (with social networking, bookmarking, Twitter and Google Docs, amongst others). Check them out here.
Twiddla is an online collaboration tool that’s easy to use, doesn’t require any downloads or complicated firewall stuff, and is totally free.
It’s like having a whiteboard skin on top of any web page or uploaded image (or nothing at all –you can use it as a blank canvas). You can mark up this whiteboard layer and interact with the web page at the same time – all in real time, with people from all over the world.
You can invite people to join your page by email or just send them the link to the page you open. Everyone can add their own bit of scribble (or even make an intelligent contribution!)
Make Beliefs Comix – an easy online way for kids to make a comic strip. These can be printed out or emailed. There are pre-made characters that each have four emotions, and there are plain color choices for the backgrounds.
Mike Temple has a great edublog where he gives tutorials and gives links to sites of interest to educators. I’ve discovered some great stuff here!
Here’s a link to Sue Wyatt’s blog post about using images and attributing them correctly when blogging. Her whole blog is a great example of a class blog – it’s also listed in our blogroll.
The Edublogger has a great post on how to make a blog post directly from Flickr – it automatically attributes the picture. This really works – I tried it for this post.
This Slideshare shows a range of ways to use VoiceThread in education:

I liked your site! I’m a elementary school computer teacher from Mexico City. Thanks for giving me new ideas for my site. I’ll keep on learning, cause it seems new things are always being invented. If you have time, drop by my site dare.edublogs.org

I enjoyed looking at your site. we are new to blogging, but my grade 3 class love it! I would like to embed a page of Aus facts (like you) but I can’t work out how you did it.

Hi Sandra, on my edublogs dashboard I went to the bright orange bar with “write a new page”, named it and then uploaded my photos as normal. You can’t add posts to a new page in the theme we’re using (Mandingo) but when we add I just edit and paste in whatever is new. Feel free to email (right sidebar) if I can help.
Could you please send us your class blog address so we can visit?

Hi,
Your blog is fantastic! I must admit, I’ve pinched a few things for my own…thanks! It’s great to see great examples of pioneers of ICT out there – hopefully I can get there one day, too.

From Mrs C: Thanks Michelle – feel free to pinch our ideas, especially since many of the best ones have come from other blogs we’ve found!
